Buzz Learning School is a specialist educational environment focused on developing practical skills and creating opportunities for young people beyond the classroom. Bates Studio was appointed to support the refurbishment and reconfiguration of several key areas across the school, delivering spaces that are both functional and inspiring.

A key part of the project involved dividing the existing kitchen into two dedicated spaces — a fully functioning commercial kitchen alongside a separate teaching kitchen designed to support hands-on learning. This allowed students to gain practical experience within a professional-style environment while maintaining the operational needs of the school.

The canteen was also fully refurbished, including new flooring, decoration and furniture, creating a brighter and more welcoming social space for students and staff. Throughout the project, materials and finishes were carefully selected to ensure durability, practicality and a modern finish suitable for a busy educational setting.

Another major aspect of the refurbishment was the transformation of a former classroom into a fully operational hair salon training space. The new environment includes a bespoke reception desk, styling stations and individual salon booths, giving students the opportunity to learn vocational skills within a realistic working setting. The aim was to create a professional environment where students could develop confidence, gain hands-on experience and build pathways into future employment.

Additional works across the site included the creation of a new corridor, installation of a reception window and new doors, alongside a series of general upgrades to improve the overall flow and functionality of the school.

Working closely with the school team, Bates Studio delivered a range of thoughtfully designed spaces that support both learning and wellbeing, helping to create an environment focused on opportunity, development and everyday practical experience.
